Add Hotel Touches to your Shower

February 27, 2009

If you live near a Tuesday Morning you know that they sometimes have great deals on home decor items.  The latest flyer for the sale starting on Tuesday 3/3/09 has the curved shower rods that you often find in hotel showers.  When these rods are used it makes the shower seem much larger and gives you some extra elbow room.

The price for a Stainless Steel or Satin Nickel rod is $19.99.  A great deal.  I know, I just bought one for rental property my real estate partner and I are rehabbing.

Another hotel feature you can add is a shower curtain with a sheer panel.  You can buy them or if you are comfortable with a sewing machine, make your own.  If you like the clean no frills look, you can save additional money by using a tightly woven white fabric shower line.

You can add extra length this way when you want a custom shower curtain to hang higher than normal.

What you need:  Fabric shower liner, sheer polyester fabric – fabric used for window sheers works great and you can buy it in wider widths.

Cut the liner below the header, leave enough fabric for a seam allowance.

If you are making a custom length shower curtain determine the length needed plus seam allowances and cut that length from the sheer fabric.  If you are simply replacing a portion of the curtain, cut the length you want for the sheer panel (be sure to add seam allowances).  Remove the length of the sheer panel (less seam allowances this time) from the shower curtain.

Sew the sheer panel to the header and to the bottom of the shower curtain.  Use enclosed seams for a neat look.  Hang your new curtain and enjoy the light that flows into your shower.
