Ancient Modern in Blue and Green

October 14, 2010

I received the book, Ancient Modern by Ronna Sarvas Weltman for Christmas last year.  It was on my list, underlined and with three exclamation marks.  I have read it cover to cover several times and made several pins, pendants and rings based on the concepts in the book.  I have not copied anything directly but interpreted the ideas to suit me.  This is my latest creation.  The color combination was inspired by the Ad Libs jacket I found in Goodwill early last winter and wrote about here.

Most of the larger beads have an aluminum foil core to reduce the weight.  It is comfortable and fun to wear and gets lots of compliments – which I must say I enjoy.

Be inspired by something you see today.

Playing in the snow

February 24, 2010

During our recent Snowmageddon I spent a lot of time shoveling, too much time trying to get my extremely slow internet connection to work and in between playing with my polymer clay.  I made several rings and a pendant from a glass pearl I found in a parking lot.  Here is a picture of the results.  Some of them I like better than others – that is what experimenting is about.  I was trying for a bakelite look with the red ring.  I like it and wear it a lot but it is not quite bakelite like, I need to experiment with my color recipe.  And the green band is very skimpy  looking but works as thumb ring.

Whatever your creative outlet, experiment!  The result is often a pleasant surprise.
