Valentine’s Day Door Decoration

February 3, 2009

I always like to have something colorful on my front door.  And I get tired of wreaths.  I like graphic, simple things on the door.

Since it is the 3rd of Feb it was time to remove the beautiful and ornate Christmas wreath that my neighbor made for me in exchange for all of the greenery he wanted from my somewhat overgrown garden.

Making the decorationI bought a heart shaped plastic placemat and attached a dowel with clear packing tape.  I wrapped florist wire around the dowel before I attached it.  See the pictures.

This makes a very simple statement on my blue/purple door.

Chalkboards Anywhere

January 28, 2009

Chalkboard walls are not just for children’s rooms. You can us them anywhere. The kitchen is a great place. You can use the board as a message center or to post a menu for casual entertaining.
Many manufacturers sell chalkboard paint – mostly in black or green.
However you can make your own with any color that appeals. Here are two recipes. Martha Stewart and Apartment Thereapy

If you are artistic, draw pictures in colored chalks to decorate your room. You can also write your favorite quote of the week or month. I sometimes use a closet door I painted a deep purple as a way of saying welcome to guests.

Other ideas are a large chalkboard propped against a wall. You could use a hollow core door from the hardware store.  Or paint the front of your refrigerator for a magnetic chalkboard.

Kitchen Idea

The owner of the house featured in my post a couple of days ago painted some of the kitchen cabinet doors with chalkboard paint. And then created a work of art on them.

Frame a part of your office wall and paint in a contrasting color for random notes.

The possibilites are endless, you can have a chalkboard anywhere.
